We begin this first newsletter of 2019 with a picture from the last few days of 2018; I felt we simply had to release this moving image as soon as possible. I’ve named this image, rather aptly, ‘Sunday Prayers’ in light of the battle for survival that many species will endure this year. I do, however, believe the winds of change are gathering pace.
Now to 2019. The first assignment of the year saw me work with the Chilean Flamingo. I have worked hard to develop my unique style of black backgrounds and high contrast. It is a tricky style but one that I have mastered after many failures.
January gave me another opportunity to further develop the style and I had a tough day in the field – it was cold, wet and lonely. But that is all part of the job, content must come before comfort. A shadowed background is needed to create such images and this means shooting when the weather gods allow.
I want to wish all our followers the very best for the year ahead; we hope you enoy following our journey.
